Love:
The most excruciatingly stupid four-letter word in the English language.
I thought I was in it,
I still think I was at some point.
This anxiety and depression, hushed lips and distance,
I’ve tolerated for far too long,
Thinking it would all get better someday.
The truth is that, being young,
Neither of us was prepared for this mess
And we’re both idiots for thinking otherwise.
Once that realization hits, I realize
I have better things to do than holding my breath forever-
I can do better than the self-destruction I’ve suffered through
During my time in these bonds they call a relationship.
Fresh resolve rushes into where the voids have been hollow for so long
When I decide I don’t need this prison anymore
Because quite frankly, I don’t need love and I don’t need you,
If you miss me, well, you always took me for granted
Why should I apologize?
Life is filled with better things,
Love being perhaps just something along the way
And I’m finally ready to embrace my freedom
Whole once again.
